That's why keeping your computer, personal information, and family members safe and secure requires regular updating of your computer software, including your operating system, browsers, antivirus and antispyware programs, and even Instant Messaging programs your family members may be using.
Many programs can be configured to receive security updates automatically. Or, you may prefer to schedule updates or perform updates manually at a time that is convenient for you. In any case, don't ignore messages that tell you updates are available. Check to see the nature of updates when you receive such notifications. And if the updates are security-related, download and install them without delay.
